Northamp­ton have re-signed flanker Jamie Gib­son on a short-term con­tract un­til the end of the Premier­ship sea­son. Gib­son, who has made 125 ap­pear­ances for the club, was re­leased last month but has been brought back as cover for Tom Wood, who is ruled out for at least three months be­cause of in­jury. Gib­son, 29, is ex­pected to fea­ture when fourth-placed Northamp­ton re­sume their top-flight cam­paign at home to Wasps on Aug 16.


Petronas Yamaha’s Fabio Quar­tararo took his first Mo­toGP vic­tory, win­ning an in­ci­dent-packed sea­sonopen­ing Span­ish Grand Prix in Jerez af­ter world cham­pion Marc Mar­quez crashed out of the race. Honda rider Mar­quez tum­bled at turn four with four laps to go, end­ing his race. His team later confirmed he would un­dergo surgery for a bro­ken arm to­mor­row. Quar­tararo’s vic­tory was also the first for Petronas Yamaha as he fin­ished ahead of Yamaha’s Mav­er­ick Vi­nales and Du­cati’s An­drea Dovizioso, who came third. Bri­tain’s Cal Crutchlow missed the race af­ter be­ing de­clared un­fit fol­low­ing a heavy crash in the warm-up.
