Northampton have re-signed flanker Jamie Gibson on a short-term contract until the end of the Premiership season. Gibson, who has made 125 appearances for the club, was released last month but has been brought back as cover for Tom Wood, who is ruled out for at least three months because of injury. Gibson, 29, is expected to feature when fourth-placed Northampton resume their top-flight campaign at home to Wasps on Aug 16.
Petronas Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo took his first MotoGP victory, winning an incident-packed seasonopening Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez after world champion Marc Marquez crashed out of the race. Honda rider Marquez tumbled at turn four with four laps to go, ending his race. His team later confirmed he would undergo surgery for a broken arm tomorrow. Quartararo’s victory was also the first for Petronas Yamaha as he finished ahead of Yamaha’s Maverick Vinales and Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso, who came third. Britain’s Cal Crutchlow missed the race after being declared unfit following a heavy crash in the warm-up.
