Golf

Eddie Pepperell has emulated countryman Lee Westwood and decided not to take advantage of eased quarantine rules in the United States and so grab the chance to play in next week’s USPGA Championship. But another Englishman, Paul Waring, will travel over to California if he recovers from a back injury in time.

Tennis

Andy Murray and Johanna Konta have said they plan to play at the US Open if it goes ahead as planned in New York next month. Murray, US Open champion in 2012, is to play in the doubles as he steps up his rehabilitation from hip surgery. Both players are taking part in the Battle of the Brits Team Tennis event this week.

Snooker

Ken Doherty’s hopes of reaching the Crucible for the first time in six years were ended by Mark King after a 6-3 defeat in the penultimate round of World Championship qualifying. The 1997 world champion never recovered after slipping 3-1 behind at the mid-session interval against the former world No 11.
