Sport in brief
The rescheduled 2020 Indian Premier League will take place in the United Arab Emirates and run from Sept 19 to Nov 10, subject to necessary clearances from the Indian government. The tournament had been scheduled to start on Mar 29 but it was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic. The three-team Women’s T20 Challenge will take place in the UAE as well.
Alex Danson-Bennett, the former Great Britain captain, will return to the game as a coach with Wimbledon Women. The 35-year-old retired in February, two years on from suffering a mild traumatic brain injury after hitting her head on a concrete wall. She said: “I’ve missed competitive hockey immensely and cannot wait to join the women in their Premiership campaign.”
Scott Redding, the Briton competing in his first World Superbikes Championship, won both of the two feature races in Jerez. The 27-yearold, who won last year’s British Superbike Championship, triumphed in the Superpole sprint opener and then overhauled the early leader Jonathan Rea in race two to come home 2.4 seconds ahead of Welshman Chaz Davies.
