Siemens’ $16bn swoop for US can­cer spe­cial­ist

Siemens Health­i­neers will buy US can­cer ther­apy and re­search com­pany Var­ian in a deal worth $16.4bn (£12bn). Palo Alto-based Var­ian had 2019 rev­enues of $3.2bn and em­ploys about 10,000 peo­ple world­wide. Siemens plans to is­sue new shares this year in a move that will re­duce its stake in Health­i­neers from 85pc to about 72pc.
