Al­stom cools on buy­out of Bom­bardier trains

French train maker Al­stom yes­ter­day hinted it is re­assess­ing its $8.2bn (£6.3bn) buy­out of Bom­bardier’s train unit, not­ing “un­ex­pected and neg­a­tive devel­op­ments”, sug­gest­ing the deal could be rene­go­ti­ated. The unit, which em­ploys 1,600 peo­ple in Derby, recorded a $377m loss in the sec­ond quar­ter. Europe’s big­gest trans­port deal was an­nounced in Fe­bru­ary.
