Another bidder has come forward saying it has submitted an offer to buy Newcastle United, following the collapse of the Saudi Arabia-led takeover of the club.

But there were doubts over what Bellagraph Nova Group claims is a £280 million bid for the Premier League side, after it said it had “enlisted” the help of Alan Shearer. Sources close to the Newcastle and Premier League legend last night denied any involvement with BNG, although the firm’s claim of a similar association with another former Newcastle striker, Michael Chopra, did stack up.

The company issued a redacted copy of what it said was a letter of intent submitted for Mike Ashley’s consideration. It is signed by Nereides de Bourbon, the firm’s chief global marketing and investor relations officer, who told The Daily Telegraph last night discussions with Ashley were ongoing. He also said BNG planned to sign the calibre of player of Cristiano Ronaldo, claiming it was in “direct contact” with him.

The company said in a statement: “Bellagraph Nova Group’s founders are at an advanced stage of negotiation, having already provided a letter of intent as well as a proof of funds on Aug 10.”
