Touchline acrobatics

Two years ago, law 18 was amended so that one of its clauses read: “The ball is not in touch or touch-in-goal if a player jumps from within or outside the playing area and catches the ball, and then lands in the playing area, regardless of whether the ball reached the plane of touch.”

Super Rugby Aotearoa provided some examples and it appears that Premiership wings have been hard at work. Byron McGuigan of Sale defied a Harlequins touch-finder and Josh Bassett picked off Dan Biggar’s kick. He tracked the ball’s flight and lept infield, gathering, rolling over and ensuring Wasps could clear the danger.
