London Irish sign England Sevens specialist Norton
London Irish have confirmed the signing of England Sevens star Dan Norton on a short-term contract.
Having scored 354 tries and appeared in 459 matches for his country, Norton holds two all-time World Rugby Sevens Series records.
The 32-year-old, an electric finisher who won a silver medal with Team GB at the Rio Olympics four years ago, has also represented England in three Commonwealth
Games in 2010, 2014 and 2018. But he began his career as a product of Gloucester’s academy and represented Moseley and Bristol in the 15-a-side game.
“I am really looking forward to getting started with London Irish and for the opportunity to go back to the format I played at grass-roots level,” Norton said.
Norton had been training with the Exiles this summer. The Daily
Telegraph understands that he has signed a contract with Irish until the end of this season.
Meanwhile, Sale Sharks will meet Harlequins in the Premiership Rugby Cup final on Monday, Sept 21. The first trophy of the 2019-20 English domestic campaign is to be decided at the AJ Bell Stadium with a 7.45pm kick-off. Premiership Rugby has squeezed the game into the crowded calendar on the day after the European quarter-finals weekend.
