Mav­er­ick Vi­nales, Yamaha’s cham­pi­onship con­tender, es­caped se­ri­ous in­jury in a hor­rific-look­ing crash at the Styr­ian Grand Prix. With 12 laps left, Vi­nales re­alised his brakes had failed and jumped off his bike at around 130 mph be­fore it crashed into the air wall and burst into flames. The Spa­niard es­caped se­ri­ous in­jury and the race restarted, with KTM Tech3’s Miguel Oliveira be­com­ing the first Por­tuguese rider to claim a Mo­toGP vic­tory.
