Gareth Southgate’s plans to name Raheem Sterling in his England squad today could be thrown into disarray after the Manchester City winger reportedly attended a surprise 34th birthday party in Jamaica for Usain Bolt, who has since undergone a test for coronavirus.

Bolt yesterday said he had undergone a Covid-19 test on Saturday and had gone into self-isolation. The results of the test are not known.

It was unclear last night what that meant for Sterling, who was said to be at Bolt’s party on Friday while on holiday following the end of City’s season.

Bolt, the eight-time Olympic champion, said in a video post on social media: “Good morning, everybody, just waking up. Like everybody, I’ve checked social media. Social media’s saying I’m confirmed of Covid-19. I did a test on Saturday because I have work.

“I’m trying to be responsible so I’m going to stay in and stay here for my friends. I have no symptoms.

“So, I’m going to quarantine myself and wait on the confirmation to see what is the protocol.”
