David Mercer, the BBC ten­nis com­men­ta­tor and for­mer Wim­ble­don um­pire, has died aged 70. Mercer um­pired the Wim­ble­don men’s sin­gles fi­nal be­tween Jimmy Con­nors and John McEn­roe in 1984.
