Den­mark counts cost of cut­ting CO2 emis­sions

Den­mark is fac­ing a hole in its bud­get due to am­bi­tious cli­mate tar­gets, a gov­ern­ment com­mis­sion has warned. The coun­try wants to in­crease elec­tric cars on its roads to 1m by 2030, from 20,000 now, un­der plans to cut carbon emis­sions by 70pc. Its car and road taxes cur­rently bring in Dkr50bn (£6bn) a year but hit­ting the 2030 tar­get would cut this by Dkr5.7bn.
