Salford have signed England centre Kallum Watkins on a three-year deal. The 29-year-old was previously with Toronto Wolfpack, who withdrew from the Super League season in July. Watkins, a Salford season ticket-holder and ball boy as a child, won Super League six times with Leeds before a stint in Australia with Gold Coast Titans, then joined Toronto in May.

Bristol Bears will aim to maintain their Gallagher Premiership play-off push when they tackle Northampton Saints at Ashton Gate this evening. Victory for the West Country club would take them above Sale Sharks into second place. That could change again tomorrow night though, when Bristol’s play-off rivals Sale, Wasps and Bath, are all in action.

Olympic Games

The International Olympic Committee has moved to end doubts over whether the postponed Games will take place next year, saying that they will be scheduled “with or without Covid”. Yoshiro Mori, the president of the Tokyo organising committee, has previously suggested that a vaccine would be needed for the Olympics and Paralympics to take place even in July 2021.
