Spire swings to loss as elec­tive surgery dries up

Hospi­tal owner Spire Health­care swung to a £231m loss in the first half of 2020. Rev­enues slumped af­ter pro­ce­dures were sus­pended due to the pan­demic and con­sul­tants were di­verted to the NHS. Justin Ash, Spire’s chief, said it was well po­si­tioned to con­tinue sup­port­ing the NHS. The com­pany posted a £9.6m profit a year ago.
