Parker plans for new de­fend­ers to im­prove Ful­ham’s soft men­tal­ity

Scott Parker will look to the trans­fer win­dow to change the men­tal­ity of Ful­ham’s de­fence af­ter con­ced­ing seven goals in the first two games fol­low­ing pro­mo­tion from the Cham­pi­onship.

Parker is likely to con­sider play­ers with Premier League ex­pe­ri­ence who are cur­rently not fea­tur­ing reg­u­larly, with his club usu­ally look­ing at tar­gets un­der the age of 28. The Ful­ham man­ager wants to in­still a nas­ti­ness in his back­line which was ab­sent in the 4-3 de­feat at El­land Road. Ital­ian club Sas­suolo also say they have re­ceived an of­fer for Brazil­ian cen­tre-back Mar­lon.

“We’re go­ing to have to learn, try to im­prove things,” Parker said. “I re­alise we have strength­ened in cer­tain ar­eas, but de­fen­sively we need to im­prove and we prob­a­bly need some help with that.

“We’ll keep try­ing to push to bring peo­ple in be­cause that’s where we need to im­prove.”

Alek­san­dar Mitro­vic had can­celled out Helder Costa’s opener be­fore Parker’s de­fence con­ceded three goals in 16 min­utes. Bobby Decor­dova-Reid and Mitro­vic pulled goals back, but Ful­ham paid the price for their defensive soft­ness.
