Llanberis are hitting top form in Alliance

-

LLANRUG United will travel to Llay Welfare in the first round proper of the Welsh Cup after last weekend’s 5-1 drubbing of Llandyrnog United.

Llay play in the Premier Division of the Welsh National League (Wrexham Area) - an equivalent level to where Llanrug operate in Welsh Alliance Division One.

And Mark Jat’s side would love a repeat of what happened against fellow WAL Division One outfit Llandyrnog when they take on Welfare on October 7.

Striker Luke Phillips broke the deadlock on eight minutes with an easy tap-in from a Carl Griffiths cross.

In the 21st minute Alan Mark Owen fed the ball down the left for Phillips, whose byline centre set up David Noel Williams for the second.

Within five minutes Owen had added a third with a superb finish from a difficult angle on the right.

’Rug were dealt a bitter blow just before half time when Griffiths had to withdraw due to injury. He was replaced by the experienced Jonathan Sadler.

In the 59th minute Owen put the hosts four up with his sixth goal in as many matches this term.

Owen sent a powerful header into the bottom right-hand corner following a fine delivery from the right by Gavin Lloyd Jones.

Llandyrnog replied on 69 minutes when Alex Webster capitalised on a rare handling error by young Llanrug keeper Morgan Jones to score.

However, the home team fittingly had the last word when Phillips notched his second and Llanrug’s fifth with a fine header in the 85th minute.

Llanrug return to league action at home to Barmouth and Dyffryn this Saturday (2.30pm). ● Full Welsh Cup northern draw: Abermule v Berriew, Airbus UK v Bow Street, Brickfield Rangers v Chirk AAA, Buckley Town v Llanidloes Town, Caernarfon Town v Lex Glyndwr, Carno v Gresford Athletic, Conwy Borough v Bodedern Athletic, Denbigh Town v Holyhead Hotspur, Flint Town United v Llanfair United, Gaerwen v Llandudno Junction, Guilsfield v Mold Alex, Holywell Town v Corwen, Llandudno Albion v Rhyl, Llanrhaeadr YM v Queen’s Park, Llay Welfare v Llanrug United, Meliden v Ruthin Town, Mochdre Sports or Mynydd Llandegai v Penley, Porthmadog v Penyffordd, Prestatyn Sports v Caersws, Saltney Town v Llanrwst United.

LLANBERIS lifted themselves up to fourth in Division One after a superb 4-0 away win at Greenfield last Saturday.

After a slow start to the season which saw them hammered 8-0 at home by Conwy Borough in their first game and then lose 3-1 at Mynydd Llandegai three days later, the Darans have polished up their act.

Following a 3-2 success at Trearddur Bay United and ending Llanrwst United’s 100% start with a 2-2 draw at Ffordd Padarn, Geraint Jones’ side then took the honours 1-0 at Nantlle Vale on August 29.

And last weekend produced the best result yet, as a double from 16-year-old Ifan Mansoor, plus a Gethin Wakeham penalty and, on his debut after signing from Bontnewydd, a goal from Jac Pearce Jones, guided ’Beris to a cracking win at a notoriously hard venue to get a result.

The Darans will look to make it five unbeaten when they visit Pwllheli this Saturday.

Last weekend was also a good one for Llanberis Reserves, who enjoyed a 3-1 win over Rhyl, Jonathan Cyster, Owain Gibbard and Gethin Taylor all on the mark.

That made it three wins from as many starts for Llanberis, who lie third in the standings with a home test against Llandudno Junction on the agenda this Saturday.

Elsewhere in the Welsh Alliance, last Saturday’s scheduled Division One battle between Penrhyndeudra- eth and Trearddur Bay was postponed.

Two Herald area sides had a field day in Division Two, Y Felinheli and Blaenau Amateurs going goal crazy.

The Quarrymen visited bottom side Cemaes Bay and inflicted a sixth straight loss on the Anglesey side with a 6-1 triumph at School Lane.

Kieron Ellis kept up his fine form with a double, Bryn Humphreys also striking twice, while Sion Aron Roberts and Alun Hughes completed the rout.

Blaenau team: Gethin Jones, Huw Parry, Andrew Roberts (Emlyn Jennings 32), Oli Dukes, Alun Hughes ( Joe Dukes 64), Carwyn Jones, Iwan Jones, Gareth Evans, David Copsey, (Sion Robers 59) Kieron Ellis, Bryn Humphreys.

Y Felinheli went one better than Blaenau as they blitzed Llannerchymedd 7-0 at Cae Seilo.

Gruff John led the way for Euron Davies’ men with a treble on 28, 58 and 66 minutes, Iwan Edwards (31), Ifan Dafydd (38), Ryan Cain (74) and Ifan Roberts all adding singles. ● In the Welsh Cup, there was heartbreak for Nantlle Vale as they went out on penalties at Meliden after a 3-3 draw.

Jonathan Peris Jones, Dylan Williams and James Phillips netted for the Penygroes men.

Pwllheli were victims of a giant-killing when they crashed out 6-5 at Gaerwen.

The Division Two hosts led 4-0 and 6-2, but a late fightback from Pwll almost forced extra time.
