Beautiful and inspirational design work all stitched up
THE North Wales Branch of the Embroiderers’ Guild will hold its biennial exhibition next month.
Inspired To Stitch will be held on November 3-4, at the United Reformed Church, Colwyn Avenue, Rhos on Sea, and will feature a collection of work created by members during the last two years.
Branch chair Marilyn Smith said: “This year, the branch offered a successful course to members, Machine Embroidery for Beginners, delivered by one of our exper- ienced members, and their work will also be on display.”
Annie said: “The course was so inspiring and has given me the skills to develop my own style.”
Joan added: “I have been hand stitching for years and have now gained the confidence to use my machine, truly inspiring.”
Other members say that the Guild has provided the opportunity to relearn skills they had forgotten, learn new techniques and meet with like-minded people who are happy to share ideas.
Sue said: “I thought I had considerable experience, but this has opened up so many other avenues to me and given me the courage to try new techniques, such as natural dying, printing, felting and using a broad range of mixed media. I now find myself hesitating before throwing away sweet wrappers, parcel wrapping, that old blouse and other bits and bobs. They might just come in useful!”
As well as the stunning work created by members, there will be an additional display of work by the Young Textile Group, which was established this year.
They meet once a month and, with their enthusiasm and support from Guild members, achieved success at the North West Regional competition this year.
The exhibition is open 10.30am5pm (Nov 3) and 10.30am-4pm (Nov 4), admission £2. Demonstrations, sales table, and refreshments available.
