Rain nearly halted Môn Eisteddfod

TOR­REN­TIAL rain al­most forced Na­tional Eisteddfod of­fi­cials to halt the fes­ti­val for the first time ever.

A storm on the first week­end of the event in Bod­ed­ern, An­gle­sey, in Au­gust flooded the car parks and turned the Maes into a quag­mire.

Only the pres­ence of a back-up plan for parking al­lowed the fes­ti­val to con­tinue, a re­port to the fes­ti­val’s coun­cil has re­vealed.

The heavy rain ren­dered the car parks, which were on farm­land, un­us­able.

A park-and-ride sys­tem had to be im­ple­mented on Mon­day, Au­gust 7, with two new parking sites in­tro­duced

● First up is the club’s Spring Gath­er­ing at Gor­we­lion, Bala, on Easter Mon­day, fol­lowed by its pop­u­lar Model Ve­hi­cle Show at Ys­gol Y Ber­wyn, Bala, on April 21-22, and the Bala Lake Fes­ti­val of Trans­port at Llanuwch­llyn on May 27-28.
