Cleared of two rape charges

-

A MAN has been cleared of rape by a jury.

Shaun Wyn Jones had denied two charges of rape and one of sexual assault and stood trial at Caernarfon Crown Court.

During his four-day trial, the 25-year-old, of Lombard Street, Porthmadog, told the jury there was “sexual chemistry” between him and the woman, and that the sex they had in her home in September was consensual.

The jury of eight men and four women took nearly nine hours to reach their verdicts.

Members of Mr Jones’ family, who had been in court throughout the trial, wept and hugged each other as the not guilty verdicts were announced.

As the family filed out at the end of the hearing, they thanked the jury.

Mr Jones accepted that he had met the woman at Festival No 6 in Portmeirion near Porthmadog on September 10 and had gone to her home the following day.

She had then opened a door and he had gone inside.

He claimed the woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, then smoked cannabis by a window.

“I went up to her and touched her hair and her back,” he told the jury.

“There was sexual chemistry in the room. “I could feel it.” After sex had taken place, they had sat on a sofa to chat and listen to music for several hours before Jones left, he said.
