Easy for me to be inspired by the nature around me
THIS week we visit Aliesha Jade at Unique Ceramics in Anglesey. Here she tells us how her hobby was turned into a business with a little financial help from the Welsh government.
“My skills and designs grew and I soon realised I enjoyed combining ceramics with driftwood and sea glass I found at local beaches.
“I’ve always loved nature and have been lucky enough to have grown up on the Isle of Anglesey with its wide range of beautiful beaches, forests and a views of the Snowdonia mountain range. It was easy y to become inspired to o make the ceramics I do. The colours and the beauty auty of the ocean is what hat inspires me most. I have now moved d and live right on the beach, and have a new studio where I can see the coast of Anglesey and the Snowdonia mountain range. I love to watch the changing seasons s and how they affect ct the coast and mounntains, which continues ues to inspire my work.”
Aliesha continues: s: “My favourite favourit piece is a vase that turned turne out very different to what wha I had set out to make. Yet the outcome has a very personal pe meaning for me in that something good can c come from some- thing bad, and I believe that can apply to life.
“The top of my vase collapsed into the base with the weight but this gave my vase its uniqueness.
“The base of my vase is a rich brown colour, while the upper part of the vase is a beautiful mottled green and blue, and is a much better shape and more as I intended.
“But what I liked about my vase and the story it told me was that the ‘good’ part of the vase looks like it has grown from within the ‘bad’ part of the vase so out of something bad or unplanned came something good and beautiful. I continue to learn and grow and enjoy my work.”
