CAERNARFON Celts Under-18 basketball team visited Holywell Central Venue League last week to play their second game of the season against the Wrexham Warriors.

Following their opening win against the Bulldogs, the Cofis were looking to maintain their good start but their opponents were equally determined but gave away a flurry of early fouls in the first quarter, which the Celts were able to turn into points, taking a 21-14 lead into the second quarter.

Another tight quarter saw both teams’ pressing defence keep the scoring to single figures with the Celts finishing with a slender 29-23 lead.

The Celts came out in the third looking to break down the Warriors defence, led by fast guard Sean Jones, scoring nine of his team’s 17 points for the quarter. An excellent team effort in the last quarter secured a good win for the Celts against another tough rival. Final score: Celts 65-47 Warriors.

MVP for the Celts and top scorer was Sean Jones (23 points).

The Celts seniors were due to play last night (Tuesday) at Ellesmere Port against reigning North Wales champions Brewers Basketball and the Celts U14’s have their opening game on Tuesday, November 6, against Mold Magic U14’s.
