Cats cause a stink

RESIDENTS in John Street are up in arms over the health hazards cats are creating in the area.

They say cat urine is causing a serious risk of disease, not to mention a lingering, overpowering stench, which is too much to bear any longer.

The valiant efforts by Campbeltown’s Cat Rescue Service have not solved the problem.

One resident said: ‘We have reported this problem time and time again, but to no avail. The environmental health people say this isn’t their department.

‘The health risks posed by the urine and droppings is one thing, and the noise at all hours of the night is another. We can’t even leave prams at the bottom of the stairs, as the cats do the toilet in them.

‘A door on our close would solve the

problem,’ she said, ‘but we have been told this is a fire hazard. We literally have to clean the stairs every day. Our clothes smell of these cats, they have kittens in the bin sheds and they roam all over the place.’
