Campbeltown bowlers win Scottish bronze
A CAMPBELTOWN team bowled its way to third in the Scottish championships at Ayr.
David Reid (skip), Craig Kerr, Paul Grumoli and Shaun Grumoli from Argyll Bowling Club, recently travelled to Northfield after qualifying through their district.
On the Wednesday morning they won their first game 22-12 against Alloa East End.
Reid sealed the game with a takeout shot for seven. They won on the Friday morning vs Inverness 22-14.
In the quarter-finals, against Hillington, Reid again played the winning shot with the last bowl in the last end, with the game against him, to win by two shots for a place in the semi-finals.
Joyce Oxborrow, from Argyll Bowling Club, said: ‘Unfortunately, the semis were one step too far and our boys lost to a very strong Irvine Park, the eventual winners.
‘They came away proudly wearing their bronze medals.
‘A big thank you is due to the club and all our supporters for everything they did to make sure the boys got there and back safely and for their loud support.’
