Poor weather for sec­ond round of MacNab Cup

A BUSY week­end at Glen­ral­loch kicked off on Satur­day with Tar­bert Golf Club’s sec­ond round of the Archie MacNab Me­mo­rial Cup, played in hor­ren­dous con­di­tions with con­tin­u­ous rain and wind dur- ing the day’s play. A tightly-bunched group of five play­ers all had a chance to win this sought-af­ter tro­phy with Gor­don McCaf­fery scor­ing well to fin­ish in third place on 71 points. Vice pres­i­dent Chris Smyth took sec­ond place with 72 points; Chris play­ing par­tic­u­larly well on the back nine. Over­all win­ner was Bruce MacNab who shot a 70 for 37 points on the day and a to­tal of 74. Iain Ma­cal­is­ter, who was un­able to play in the first round, had the sec­ond-best score on the day with 36 points but took the magic two pot with chip-in birdies at both the 3rd and 8th holes. Vice pres­i­dent Smyth pre­sented the tro­phy to a de­lighted Bruce who thanked the hard core mem­bers for turn­ing out on such a hor­ri­ble day.

On Sunday the ladies’ sec­tion ran the mixed dou­bles breast cancer aware­ness green­some with the nine teams tak­ing part rais­ing a fan­tas­tic £406 in the process. Lochgip­head hus­band and wife team of Jim and El­lie Hunter took first prize with a net score of 61.5, fol­lowed by Bill and Rona Young on net 64 and third were Ryan McG­lynn and Donna McKel­lar on 68.5.

Ladies’ cap­tain Rae Bleasby thanked ev­ery­one who took part and was grate­ful for all the do­na­tions and prizes re­ceived.

This Satur­day the Tar­bert Golf Club Am -Am takes place with tee times still avail­able.
