Drum ma­jor Liam col­lects Cowal Mace

CAMP­BEL­TOWN drum ma­jor Liam Ren­ton ended his sea­son on a high with huge suc­cess at the Cowal games.

Mr Ren­ton, cur­rently drum ma­jor of In­ver­aray and Dis­trict Pipe Band, has had a suc­cess­ful sea­son this year be­ing placed in all ma­jor cham­pi­onships. Cul­mi­nated

This has cul­mi­nated in him win­ning the fa­mous Cowal Mace at the Cowal High­land Gath­er­ing on Satur­day.

Proud mum Mhairi Ren­ton said: ‘Although no longer hav­ing ma- jor sta­tus this is a very pres­ti­gious com­pe­ti­tion and Liam is de­lighted to have taken first place.

‘For­mer world cham­pion drum ma­jor Iain Lang of Camp­bel­town, won this tro­phy in 1959 and 1961 and Liam has achieved much suc­cess us­ing and adapt­ing flour­ishes that were in­tro­duced by him and passed down over the years.

‘Thanks goes to the peo­ple of Camp­bel­town who of­fer a huge sup­port to Liam and the bands through­out the sea­son.’

Liam Ren­ton holds the cov­eted Cowal Mace.
