Campbeltown woman is top student

Campbeltown Courier - - NEWS -

A CAMPBELTOWN woman studying administration had a red letter day when she was named further education student of the year.

Rebecca Allan was recently awarded the Argyll College UHI title in front of more than 80 students at the college’s graduation ceremony in Oban.

The graduating students were addressed by Gary McLean of Masterchef The Professionals fame.

In a speech, the 45-year-old award winning chef encouraged the students to work hard to achieve their dreams.

Rebecca completed a national certifi- cate in administration this year, having progressed from a national progression award in construction.

During her time at college, Rebecca was unanimously elected class representative by her peers.

This role saw Rebecca represent the college at the Highlands and Islands Students’ Association (HISA) annual meeting in Inverness. Rebecca was also part of a small group of students invited to the Scottish parliament to give feedback on student life.

Rebecca’s tutor from the college described her as: ‘An excellent student and ambassador for the college.’

During the ceremony, Rebecca gave an account of her time with Argyll College and although she finds public speaking nerve-wracking, she admitted the speech wasn’t as daunting as speaking in the Scottish parliament.

Rebecca has progressed onto an HNC interactive media and web design at the college’s Hazelburn campus.

Rebecca Allan is presented with her certificate and trophy.
