Rural Growth Deal

Campbeltown Courier - - YOUR VIEWS -

Sir, The Rural Growth Deal that will hopefully be coming to Argyll and Bute will address at least some of the past unfairness to Islay and Kintyre. The Conservative group has played a key role in making sure Argyll and Bute council’s administration understands all the issues facing the Kintyre and Island’s ward. I have also advised my colleagues on the administration about the challenges we face across Argyll and Bute. Islay and Jura has sent vast tax contributions into the coffers of central governments of every political stripe for decades upon decades but our infrastructure has sadly disintegrated. We need to improve local infrastructure, job opportunities, housing stock, broadband and electric grid capacity. Nothing is guaranteed and the Rural Growth Deal will not address all of Argyll and Bute’s many problems but it is a step in the right direction. What is guaranteed is that I will lobby, fight and shout relentlessly, for the Kintyre and the Islands ward, and do all that I can to see that we are not sidelined as in the past. Councillor Alastair Redman, Portnahaven, Islay.
