IWA festival heads for the BCN
FOLLOWING A FESTIVAL in Northampton with weather best described as ‘mixed’, the Inland Waterways Association announced that next year’s August Bank Holiday event will be on the Birmingham Canal Navigations.
At least a sunny Saturday saw a good start to the Northampton Festival of Water, with the event in Becket’s Park opened by Timothy West and Prunella Scales (pictured), and a good turnout by visiting boats and the public. The event which included water-based activities and a range of stalls and displays, marked 200 years since the canal arrived in the town.
This is the second of a series of smaller-scale IWA events that have in part taken the place of the former National Festival. It follows the Stroud event in 2014, and will be followed by a festival at Pelsall on the Wyrley & Essington Canal on the August Bank Holiday in 2016, aiming to tempt boaters onto the underused northern BCN.
