BRIDGE GOES FOR PAINTING
Engineers, faced with the challenge of repainting the Horse Bridge over the River Soar in Birstall without any paint getting in the river and harming wildlife, opted to send it away for painting. A 100-tonne crane lifted the bridge on to a lorry which took it away to specialist painting contractors near Doncaster. After gritblasting and some minor repairs, a new coat of paint should protect the bridge for the next 25 years. The Trust has installed a temporary bridge in the meantime.
