Canal Boat - - News -

A planning application has been submitted for a hydroelectric plant at the former mill beside Flint Mill Lock on the Caldon Canal. Although it will be operated by water from the canal, it won’t deplete the canal’s supplies as this section is fed from the River Churnet at Consall Forge. Water for the lock will take priority over the hydro plant, and the maximum water flow in the canal from the operation of the turbines will never exceed 1/4 metre per second at the tightest pinch points under bridges.
