How big a header tank?

Canal Boat - - Back Cabin -

QI have a one-litre pressurised header tank fitted to my 2.0-litre Yanmar skin tankcooled engine. I need to replace the header tank because the neck fitting has become chewed up. The only suitable tank I can find is of five litres capacity. Would this be okay to fit?

ATONY REPLIES... It will be fine except that you would need a bit more antifreeze if you fill it to the ‘Maximum’ mark. This sounds like a new tank you are thinking of buying, which is fine, but you could also think about looking for one from a scrapped truck which would do the job.

Expansion tanks don’t

need to be small
