ARKWRIGHT’S MILL:

Canal Boat - - The Cruise Guide -

For those continuing north on foot to explore the derelict Cromford Canal, near Cromford Wharf is Arkwright’s Mill which in 1771 was the world’s first successful water-powered cotton spinning mill. Sir Richard Arkwright went on to develop more mills, warehouses and workshops which now form the Cromford Mills site. It now enjoys a historical Grade 1 status and is part of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site.
