Don’t miss your chance to have a voice!
We get a fair number of moans from readers about various matters to do with the Canal & River Trust; some are justified, some aren’t, and we ask questions of them when necessary (much to their polite annoyance on occasions).
We’re just one of the channels – albeit an important one – that boaters have to get their voices heard. Another way, of course, is via the Boater Representatives on CRT’s Council, the election for which is currently taking place.
What comes as something of a surprise is the response from boaters so far. Of a potential 29 candidates for the four places, only eight could muster enough support to be allowed to stand – and they only had to get the backing of ten friends! Okay, so it might not be perceived as having the weight of, say, a G8 Summit, but the Council meetings are a chance to quiz the honchos (suits if you prefer) about matters that concern boaters – and if four smart people get elected and make themselves available to all boaters, it could make a difference to what happens on our waterways.
But for that to happen people need to vote – voting closes on 11 December.
