NICE PAINT JOB
The Grade II listed Nantwich Aqueduct was reopened in early December following a painstaking two-month restoration project. The £235,000 work by the Canal & River Trust involved removing layers of old paint, replacing a missing cast iron panel, repairs to the stone and brickwork and applying four coats of new paint. The 1826 Thomas Telford structure carries the Shropshire Union Canal over the A534 Chester Road. The project was funded by CRT, local and parish councils, The Pilgrim Trust and Nantwich Partnership. Marc Evans, project manager, said his team had “walked in the footsteps of Thomas Telford”.
