Hon­ours for canal re­stor­ers

THE NEW YEAR Hon­ours List fea­tures two wa­ter­way sup­port­ers – both of them with a back­ground in en­gi­neer­ing, and both in­volved in canal restora­tion in the south of Eng­land.

John Lav­er­ick (pic­tured), hon­orary vice pres­i­dent of the Wilts & Berks Canal Trust, a for­mer Chair­man of the Trust, and the owner of a steam launch, who worked for Bri­tish Wa­ter­ways for many years, has been made an MBE ‘for vol­un­tary ser­vice to wa­ter­ways man­age­ment and restora­tion’. He fea­tures in our 20 Ques­tions ar­ti­cle this month on page 98.

Michael Lee re­ceives the BEM ‘for ser­vices to the restora­tion of the Ken­net & Avon Canal’, but fol­low­ing the com­ple­tion of the K& A restora­tion, he has also been in­volved in the Wilts & Berks as its En­gi­neer­ing Di­rec­tor be­fore em­i­grat­ing to Oman.
