Honours for canal restorers
THE NEW YEAR Honours List features two waterway supporters – both of them with a background in engineering, and both involved in canal restoration in the south of England.
John Laverick (pictured), honorary vice president of the Wilts & Berks Canal Trust, a former Chairman of the Trust, and the owner of a steam launch, who worked for British Waterways for many years, has been made an MBE ‘for voluntary service to waterways management and restoration’. He features in our 20 Questions article this month on page 98.
Michael Lee receives the BEM ‘for services to the restoration of the Kennet & Avon Canal’, but following the completion of the K& A restoration, he has also been involved in the Wilts & Berks as its Engineering Director before emigrating to Oman.
