Rockfall blocks Springs Branch

Canal Boat - - News - CB

IN ANOTHER INCIDENT after the main flooding, the Springs Branch of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal was blocked by several tons of fallen rock.

The rock fell into the canal from the mound which supports Skipton Castle and the Canal & River Trust is in communication with its owners (who are responsible for the land where the slip occurred).

Although the closure doesn’t affect the main line of the canal, the Branch is used by a popular trip-boat operation. Fortunately no-one was injured by the fall, and no boats are trapped on the wrong side of it. As went to press CRT didn’t have a timescale for repairs.
