Bridging the gap…

Canal Boat - - News -

THE FIRST VEHICLE is pictured testing out Stroud’s striking new Lodgemore Bridge, a liftbridge built to an unusual design – on the skew and with a single counterbalance weight.

Along with the new Bowbridge Bridge, also under construction, it will close one of the last remaining gaps in the six-mile length from Stonehouse to just below Brimscombe whose restoration is currently nearing completion.

Meanwhile, Cotswold Canals Trust is holding its collective breath waiting for news of the £15m Heritage Lottery Fund bid to restore the link from this section to the national canal network at Saul. The Trust has made a 15-minute video featuring one of its better known members, broadcaster and historian Professor Mark Horton (inset), about this four-mile length. You can watch Stroudwater Restored and Connected by following the links from cotswoldcanals.com.
