Fatal boat fire on K& A
KENNET & AVON
A BOATER DIED as a result of a fire on board his narrowboat on the Kennet & Avon Canal.
Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service sent crews and rescue equipment from three local fire stations to the canal at Bradfordupon-Avon after the alarm was raised by a passer-by in the early hours of 10 January.
Firefighters tackling the blaze found the body of 44-year-old Paul Wright on the floor of the boat’s cabin. An inquest has been adjourned until April or May, but police are treating the death as accidental.
This is not the first fatal fire on this length of canal. The Fire & Rescue Service has responded by bringing forward already-planned boat fire safety talks held in canalside pubs. Trowbridge Fire Station also offers free boat safety checks. See wiltsfire.gov.uk.
