Blacking paint for your boat
We’ve got five money-saving blacking kits to give away
Want to save some money on maintenance? This month you can thanks to SML Paints and Coatings who have come up with a top prize in our competition. Boatyards are very competitive when it comes to blacking, and, when you calculate what you pay for the paint, equipment and your time, getting them to do the job is often a no-brainer. However, some people prefer to get up close and personal with their pride and joy, so what you need then is the paint.
Ballastic Black from SML has less solvent than other bitumen brands so when applied at the same spreading rate it will provide superior corrosion protection – plus, it can be applied over virtually all existing coatings. So how much will you need? When application is by brush and roller the average coverage is 6m2 to 8m2 per litre which means a typical 48ft narrowboat would require 7.5 litres per coat.
If you are thinking of doing it yourself, SML Paints and Coatings is offering five lucky readers enough Ballastic Black to protect their boat (up to 65ft) and will also throw in some thinners, brushes, rollers and the all-important personal protection pack with overalls, goggles and gloves.
