WELCOME

Canal Boat - - Contents - NICK WALL Editor

Ilike a good pint, and if it’s by the water’s edge, that makes it taste even better. But we at CB also know that many pubs have had a bit of a time of it over the last few years with some facing an uphill struggle to keep their beer on tap and doors open.

Which is why we launched the Canal Boat Pub Of The Year Awards last year. With your help we wanted to show that there are some great waterside pubs out there and reward those who do that bit extra for boaters. You can see who won and why on Page 54.

I’ve just had the pleasure of travelling to them to present them with their CanalBoat Pub Of The Year plaques, which you might think was a good excuse to nip out for a crafty pint (yes, it was a beautiful spring day and the sun was shining) but it also gave me a chance to find out what made the winner and two runners-up that bit special in your eyes.

The response to our Awards was so good we’re going to do it again for 2016 so, later in the year, we’ll be calling for your nominations for your favourite pubs.

In the meantime, we hope you’ll support all of the waterside pubs on your cruises this year; remember the old saying, if we don’t use them we could lose them – and we hope you’ll have many a happy pint (okay and a pie) on your travels.
