Where would you put your gal­ley? This one is in an un­usual place, but it works ex­tremely well

In 20 years of Canal Boat we’ve re­viewed a lot of boats. At the rate of one boat test a month, that’s 240 straight away; but there have also been a good few ex­tra ones here and there, and dozens of mini-re­views from each Crick Boat Show.

But in all those hun­dreds of boats, you could prob­a­bly count on the fin­gers of one hand those with the gal­ley at the front of the boat. For some rea­son, it’s not a lay­out many people con­sider – and yet here we have a boat where the own­ers, Mark Will­mott and Siân Mor­gan, de­cided the size and lo­ca­tion of the gal­ley were the most im­por­tant fac­tors. And they weren’t work­ing in the dark, ei­ther, as they al­ready had a boat which wasn’t right for them.
