Aire & Calder Leeds – Knos­trop: opened Easter VOL­UN­TEERS IN BERK­SHIRE have launched a new sys­tem to warn boaters of strong streams on the River Kennet sec­tion of the Kennet & Avon after a suc­cess­ful trial. Work­ing with the Canal & River Trust, vol­un­teer ‘Lock Guardians’ place coloured vinyl ‘sleeves’ on lock beams: yel­low sleeves on the beams ad­vise cau­tion, while red sleeves mean it’s not ad­vis­able to use the river at all.
