Wheel. There, you re-join the tow­path for the rest of the mile and a half of new canal built the same time as the Wheel. This con­tin­ues through Scot­land’s new­est canal tun­nel, Rough Cas­tle, pass­ing un­der a ridge of high ground, a rail­way, and the re­mains of the Ro­man An­to­nine Wall. The canal then turns sharp left, climbs a pair of stair­case locks, and con­tin­ues east along a hill­side, cross­ing a road on a new aqueduct.

Not far be­yond the aqueduct, there’s a slight widen­ing where it looks like an old arm may once have joined the canal on the left.
