The Thames Sail­ing Barge Trust’s 1922 barge (and Dunkirk evac­u­a­tion sur­vivor) Pudge is set for restora­tion thanks to £355,600 ear­marked (sub­ject to Stage 2 ap­proval) from the Her­itage Lot­tery Fund, with a £26,000 de­vel­op­ment grant avail­able in the mean­time. Other re­cent HLF grants to wa­ter­ways groups in­clude £ 9,300 to the So­bri­ety Project in Goole’s Pit to Port in­dus­trial her­itage project; £ 9,900 to a com­mu­nity arts project in Wi­gan and Leigh based around the Leeds & Liver­pool Canal’s 200th an­niver­sary, and £10,000 for sur­veys and stud­ies into the vi­a­bil­ity of restor­ing the Grade 2 listed former boat gaug­ing house at Tip­ton on the Birm­ing­ham Canal Nav­i­ga­tions.
