‘One stop shop’ for boaters launched
RESERVATIONS FOR THOSE parts of the canal system where boaters need to book ahead, plus bookings for moorings, dry docks and other Canal & River Trust functions, are to be centralised in an on-line ‘One stop shop’ currently being developed.
At present there are several places where advance booking is in use: Standedge Tunnel Frankton Locks The Liverpool Link The Ribble Link Anderton Lift (not compulsory) Currently the bookings are made by phone, but from 14 November a self-service online booking system accessed from canalrivertrust.org.uk will enable boaters to book their trips.
In addition, bookings for CRT’s Wigan and Ellesmere dry docks will also be covered – but ultimately it is planned to use the site for more. Winter moorings, pre-booked visitor moorings (see news story, page 6), long-term mooring and licence renewal are expected to be dealt with in the same place.
CRT Head of Boating Mike Grimes said boaters would not only be able to book up to two years in advance, but “will have the flexibility to change things in advance if their plans change”.
