‘One stop shop’ for boaters launched

RESER­VA­TIONS FOR THOSE parts of the canal sys­tem where boaters need to book ahead, plus book­ings for moorings, dry docks and other Canal & River Trust func­tions, are to be cen­tralised in an on-line ‘One stop shop’ cur­rently be­ing de­vel­oped.

At present there are sev­eral places where ad­vance book­ing is in use: Stand­edge Tun­nel Frank­ton Locks The Liver­pool Link The Rib­ble Link An­der­ton Lift (not com­pul­sory) Cur­rently the book­ings are made by phone, but from 14 Novem­ber a self-ser­vice on­line book­ing sys­tem ac­cessed from canal­rivertrust.org.uk will en­able boaters to book their trips.

In ad­di­tion, book­ings for CRT’s Wi­gan and Ellesmere dry docks will also be cov­ered – but ul­ti­mately it is planned to use the site for more. Win­ter moorings, pre-booked vis­i­tor moorings (see news story, page 6), long-term mooring and li­cence re­newal are ex­pected to be dealt with in the same place.

CRT Head of Boat­ing Mike Grimes said boaters would not only be able to book up to two years in ad­vance, but “will have the flex­i­bil­ity to change things in ad­vance if their plans change”.
