AT THE SAME time as plan­ning for win­ter, this sum­mer fea­tured a sig­nif­i­cant amount of heavy planned main­te­nance work.

In or­der to spread the in­creased amount of en­gi­neer­ing work around the year, CRT sched­uled 17 jobs an sites where work could be car­ried out with­out se­ri­ous im­pacts on boat­ing. These in­cluded: Paired locks where one lock could stay open at all times (in­clud­ing Hamp­stead Road, London, and Thames Locks, Brent­ford) Wa­ter­ways where al­ter­na­tive routes were avail­able (for ex­am­ple the BCN at Rushall, Smeth­wick and As­ton locks)
