Narrowboat dream

Canal Boat - - Letters - ALF OWEN, via email

IN REPLY TO your article, I am a pilot on a narrowboat afternoon tea cruiser and I love my job piloting the narrowboat along the Leeds & Liverpool Canal.

I have hired a narrowboat for a week’s holiday and I would love to own one, but I cannot afford to. I do, though, have an Atlanta 24 canal cruiser, which I can afford. They are much harder to get out of quickly though, or to moor up in a broadside wind. And just general exiting and entering is harder. Climbing over the gunwales can be a pain as well. For me, the narrowboat wins hands down all the time. Maybe one day…
