‘Give Bridgewater to CRT’ call

BRIDGEWATER CANAL

Canal Boat - - News -

IN THE LATEST development following the imposition of a £40 charge for repeat visits by Canal & River Trust licenced craft to the Bridgewater earlier this year, a petition is calling for the canal to be taken over by CRT.

The move follows repeated attempts by CRT to persuade Peel Holdings (owners of the Bridgewater) to reinstate earlier arrangements whereby CRT craft visiting for up to seven days at a time (and likewise Bridgewater licenced boats visiting local CRT canals) paid no charge, however many visits they made.

Now, local boater Carol Edwards has launched an online petition criticising the appointment of an “over zealous” Enforcement Officer and calling upon the Government to “compulsorily remove ownership from Peel Holdings”. To find the petition, see change.org and search on ‘Bridgewater Canal’.
