Bridging the funding gap
BRIDGE 70, THE first bridge to be restored on the Uttoxeter Canal, is pictured following completion of work, thanks to a partnership between the Caldon & Uttoxeter Canals Trust and the Inland Waterways Association.
The restoration was led by CUCT, but with significant IWA support including: Engineering consultancy by IWA’s honorary consulting engineers to specify the work Volunteer labour from Waterway Recovery Group (an IWA subsidiary) including four week-long canal camps A short-term IWA loan towards completion of stonework, to unlock a Heritage Lottery Fund grant
IWA National Chairman Les Etheridge said: “We always tell societies to come and talk to us if they have a problem,” while CUCT’s Julie Arnold said the Trust was grateful for the help which “truly bridges funding gaps”.
