Bridg­ing the fund­ing gap

BRIDGE 70, THE first bridge to be re­stored on the Ut­tox­eter Canal, is pic­tured fol­low­ing com­ple­tion of work, thanks to a part­ner­ship be­tween the Cal­don & Ut­tox­eter Canals Trust and the In­land Wa­ter­ways As­so­ci­a­tion.

The restora­tion was led by CUCT, but with sig­nif­i­cant IWA sup­port in­clud­ing: En­gi­neer­ing con­sul­tancy by IWA’s honorary con­sult­ing en­gi­neers to spec­ify the work Vol­un­teer labour from Wa­ter­way Re­cov­ery Group (an IWA sub­sidiary) in­clud­ing four week-long canal camps A short-term IWA loan to­wards com­ple­tion of stonework, to un­lock a Her­itage Lot­tery Fund grant

IWA Na­tional Chair­man Les Etheridge said: “We al­ways tell so­ci­eties to come and talk to us if they have a prob­lem,” while CUCT’s Julie Arnold said the Trust was grate­ful for the help which “truly bridges fund­ing gaps”.
