Canal Boat - - Restoration -

Cruise the Caldon Canal and you will occasionally see original cast iron mileposts which still give the distance to Uttoxeter, well over a century and a half since the last boat travelled there. The Caldon & Uttoxeter Canals Trust has been working on a project to reinstate the missing mileposts along the section from Froghall on to Denstone (beyond which the canal restoration is likely to diverge from the original line). Having contacted Ellesmere Port Boat Museum for the original patterns, six mileposts have been cast, with five already planted at sites accessible to the public, and the sixth is awaiting the openingup of the walking route from Froghall to Oakamoor before it can be installed.
